Douglas R. Coonfield was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and was raised in the Texas Hill Country. Mr. Coonfield earned his undergraduate degree in English from The University of
Texas at San Antonio. He received his J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law in May of 2018.
While in law school, his activities included serving as the managing editor for The Review of Litigation, treasurer on the U.T. Board of Advocates and the Texas Law Student Chapter of the
American Constitution Society, and staff editor for the Texas Intellectual Property Law Journal and the Texas Review of Entertainment and Sports Law. Mr. Coonfield competed in the
Hutcheson Moot Court Competition, was a member of the 2L Mock Trial spar team, and was a student member of the Barbara Jordan American Inn of Court. In addition, Mr. Coonfield was a
Student Attorney ad Litem in the Children’s Rights Clinic. His student note published in The Review concerns the development of constitutional standing in civil rights cases. Mr. Coonfield continues to serve as a member of the Texas Law Class of 2018 Alumni Committee.
Mr. Coonfield began working at CANTILO & BENNETT, L.L.P. as a law clerk during his third year of law school. Upon graduating, he accepted a position as an Associate and has worked on receiverships and rehabilitations in multiple states. Mr. Coonfield continues to represent insurance departments and receivership estates in matters related to insurance insolvency and rehabilitation.
Mr. Coonfield was admitted to the State Bar of Texas on November 2, 2018, and the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas on May 20, 2021. He is a member of the Austin Bar Association and the Austin Young Lawyers Association.

Capson Physicians Insurance Company (TX, February 2019 to Present)
C&B was designated by the Insurance Commissioner for the state of Texas as Special Deputy Receiver of Capson Physicians Insurance Company (“Capson”), a medical malpractice insurer, in February of 2019. Mr. Osborn serves as an associate responsible for the operation of Capson, assisting with the day-to-day management and administration of the company’s affairs.
Southern Title Insurance Company (December 2011 to Present)
C&B was selected to serve as counsel to the Deputy Receiver in December 2011 when Southern Title Insurance Company (“Southern”) was placed in receivership for rehabilitation or liquidation by the Circuit Court of the City of Richmond. Mr. Coonfield serves as an associate responsible for the operation of Southern Title, assisting with the day-to-day management and administration of the company’s affairs.
